ViroCLEAR Frequently Asked Questions
What does ViroCLEAR kill?
Is ViroCLEAR effective against Monkeypox?
Yes, ViroCLEAR is also effective against Monkeypox & HRSV in addition to the other bacteria and virus.
What is the active ingredient in ViroCLEAR?
ViroCLEAR's uniqueness lies in its active ingredient, Benzalkonium Chloride (BKC), which is used at a concentration of only 0.12%. It is the same amount of concentration found in eye lens solutions and nasal sprays, which is the standard limit set for safe use. In the US and Europe, the maximum concentration of BKC allowed in products is 0.12%, as it has been determined to be safe, non-toxic, and non-irritating at this level.
Here at Aussie Pharma Direct, we have conducted thorough research on the effectiveness of BKC and ensure that any product containing BKC adhere to the regulations in Europe and the US. Currently in Australia, the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) regulates the use of BKC, but no limits have been set yet.
If you need more information on these regulations, we are able to provide it upon request.
Is BKC (Benzalkonium Chloride) a banned product?
Benzalkonium Chloride (BKC) is not banned in most countries, but its use is regulated by government agencies. In the European Union, BKC is regulated by the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA), which has set limits on the maximum concentration allowed in certain products. In the United States, BKC is regulated by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). At the moment, the maximum concentration allowed in products that are set by the US and European Union is 0.12%. Some countries, however, have restricted or banned the use of BKC in certain products due to safety concerns.
In Australia, on the other hand, the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) regulates the use of BKC. As a matter of fact, ViroCLEAR has only 0.12% BKC to which it is included in the Australian Register of Therapeutic Goods (ARTG) listed goods. Based on our research, there are currently no limits set at this stage by the Australian government.
Is the benzalkonium chloride in ViroCLEAR Surface Disinfectant safe for skin?
Yes, the benzalkonium chloride in ViroCLEAR Surface Disinfectant is safe for skin when used as directed. The formulation contains only 0.12% benzalkonium chloride, which is a low concentration that is generally considered safe for the skin.
I have sensitive skin to some plants. Will ViroCLEAR be okay for me?
The selection of chamomile and native lemon bush as key ingredients in ViroCLEAR was based on their moisturising and soothing properties for the skin, in addition to their ability to enhance the product's effectiveness against germs and bacteria. Although we cannot guarantee that any natural or synthetic material is completely non-irritating to the skin, we recommend performing a small patch test on your skin for several days if you have sensitive skin to ensure there is no allergic reaction or sensitivity. We have had numerous customers with similar concerns, and the vast majority have reported no dermatological issues with the use of ViroCLEAR.
Does the ViroCLEAR Hand Sanitiser kill COVID-19?
Although the hand sanitiser is highly effective, Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) does not allow COVID-19 kill claims for the hand sanitiser product. An individual's hand will need to be infected with COVID-19 for testing purposes in order to determine the efficacy of the hand sanitiser. This type of testing is deemed unethical. However, we can assure you that our hospital-grade surface disinfectant, with approved COVID-19 kill claims at 90 seconds by ARTG, has the same formula as our hand sanitiser.
Does the ViroCLEAR Sanitiser & Protectant Fogger kill COVID-19?
Presently the testing on the foggers for COVID kill claims is being considered. The testing is extremely expensive and there is a wide variety of variants that could impact the study. So, at present we are looking for the best testing regime for our fogger products thus, we do not have COVID kill claim for the fogger at this stage.
Does the ViroCLEAR Hospital Grade Surface Disinfectant kill all the strains of COVID-19?
Based on the answer we have gotten from Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA), theoretically, ViroCLEAR would kill all strains as they are all variants of the original COVID-19.
How quickly does ViroCLEAR it kill COVID-19 on surfaces?
The information below is based on the time kill study on ViroCLEAR against COVID-19 under TGA protocols:
• 15 seconds - 90% kill
• 60 seconds - 99% kill
• 90 seconds - 99.99% kill
The TGS requires us to have a kill at 99.99% hence, ViroCLEAR is allowed to claim "kills COVID-19 in 90 seconds".
For more details, you can refer to the ViroCLEAR disinfectant efficacy test right here.
How long does the ViroCLEAR Hospital Grade Surface Disinfectant last on surfaces?
Currently, the TGA does not have an official protocol to test how long the ViroCLEAR surface disinfectant lasts on a surface due to the uncertainty of use. Generally, disinfectants remain effective on surfaces for a few hours to several days. Some types of disinfectants may require a longer contact time to ensure effective disinfection, while others may evaporate quickly, leaving the surface unprotected.
We believe that ViroCLEAR should be used once a surface has been touched to ensure that the surface is effectively cleaned.
Does ViroCLEAR work on clothes or soft furnishings?
Presently ViroCLEAR can only be used on hard surfaces for the claims it makes. It may work on clothes and soft furnishings but we cannot guarantee it will work nor can we advise you to do that for the disinfection of COVID-19.
Can I spray ViroCLEAR on my hair?
The hand sanitiser can be used in the hair to sanitise it without any issues.
Is ViroCLEAR safe to spray on my pet?
ViroCLEAR is not registered as a product that can be used on animals at this stage. The active ingredient in ViroCLEAR, however, is approved by the Australian Pesticides & Veterinary Medicines Authority (APVMA) as suitable to be used on animals and in veterinary clinics. We will soon have APVMA approval for use on animals but at present, we cannot recommend it.
Is the ViroCLEAR Sanitiser & Protectant Fogger safe to take on a plane?
No, the ViroCLEAR Sanitiser & Protectant Fogger is not safe to take on a plane as it is an aerosol. Aerosol products are typically prohibited in carry-on and checked luggage due to safety regulations.
How does the room fogger work?
The ViroCLEAR Sanitiser & Protectant Fogger is designed for ultimate ease of use. Just press a button and the fogger will release a fine mist that gently disperses throughout your room, similar to a sanitising bomb.
Does ViroCLEAR damage surfaces?
No it shouldn’t damage any surfaces as it has been formulated to be non-irritant, non-corrosive and non-toxic. It doesn’t contain chemicals such as ethanol, hydrogen peroxide or chlorine that will damage your surfaces after prolonged use.
Do you need to spray ViroCLEAR and leave on the surface or spray and wipe?
Please spray ViroCLEAR on the surface and wait at least 90 seconds before wiping. The longer you leave it on the surface the better the efficacy of the product will be. Leaving it to dry will only take a few minutes, and the surface will be fully protected. You can wipe after, if required.
Is ViroCLEAR fragrance free?
Yes, ViroCLEAR is fragrance free. The distinct lemon odour comes from the lemon bush extract that is part of the natural ingredients in the product.

By purchasing a larger container of sanitiser, you can save money in the long run and reduce your plastic waste.
What is the difference between alcohol based and alcohol free hand sanitiser?
The main difference between alcohol-based and alcohol-free hand sanitisers lies in their active ingredients and their effects on the skin.
Alcohol-based hand sanitisers typically contain 60-95% alcohol, such as ethanol or isopropanol, which effectively kills a wide range of germs and bacteria. However, frequent use of alcohol-based sanitisers can sometimes cause dryness and irritation to the skin.
Alcohol-free hand sanitisers use other active ingredients, such as benzalkonium chloride, to kill germs. These formulations can be gentler on the skin, reducing the risk of skin sensitisation and irritation. ViroCLEAR Alcohol-Free Hand Sanitiser also contains native Australian plant extracts, enhancing its natural and soothing properties. This makes it a suitable option for individuals with sensitive skin or those who use hand sanitiser frequently.
