How to use AirPhysio®
Check out the video tutorial on how to use AirPhysio.
Here's a step-by-step guide on how you can use the AirPhysio®:
- Take a deep abdominal breath and fill your lungs completely
- Hold your breath for 2 to 3 seconds
- Place the AirPhysio® in your mouth and exhale at a consistent pace for 3-5 seconds until you empty your lungs. Take it easy and don’t blow too hard. Blowing too quickly or too hard may overexert your lungs and make you feel tight in the chest.
- The aim is to make the steel ball oscillate (move) so it lifts slightly off the cone. Most people can achieve this without too much exertion, but it may take a little while to train up your lung capacity.
- Adjust the device so the cap faces the ceiling and tilt it until you achieve maximum vibrations in your chest. To amplify the effect in your chest, try to keep your cheeks fully expanded.
- After exhaling through the device, you may feel mucus gathering at the back of your throat or near the top of your lungs. If so, cough to expel the mucus.
- Repeat steps 1 to 6 approximately two times per minute for up to 5 minutes. To reduce the chance of feeling lightheaded, take two deep breaths between each session.
Important note: The AirPhysio®Device for Children should always be used under the guidance and supervision of a parent or caregiver. Children should never be allowed to use the device without adult supervision. As with any medical device, it is important to follow the instructions for use carefully to ensure safe and effective treatment.
Extra Tips: Use AirPhysio® to improve the distribution and effectiveness of aerosol medication
If your child is on aerosol medication for the respiratory condition he or she might be having, using the AirPhysio® can help improve the distribution and effectiveness of the medication by following these exercise steps:
- Help your child to find a comfortable sitting position and ensure that their posture is correct.
- Have them inhale slowly and deeply, taking in more air than they would with a normal breath, but avoid filling their lungs completely.
- Guide them to hold their breath for 2 to 3 seconds.
- Place AirPhysio® in their mouth and exhale through it at a moderate pace using abdominal breathing. Make sure they do not fully empty their lungs.
- Adjust the tilt of AirPhysio® to feel maximum vibrations within their chest while ensuring that they keep their cheeks stiff.
- Repeat steps 2 through 4 for 5 to 10 breaths.
The exercise may make them feel lightheaded. Whenever they do, be sure to take a break in between and breathe normally until the lightheadedness recedes. Resume the exercise once they feel better. Remind them to take it easy as overexerting themselves or pushing themselves too hard with the exercise makes them highly likely to pass out or lose consciousness.
